Parenting during the Summer can be enjoyable, but also very challenging. Here are some helpful tips to make the most of the Summer for Parents and their kids:

  1. Set a Routine: While it’s great to have a break from the usual school routine, maintaining some structure can help kids feel secure and ensure they don’t get too off-track when it is time to return to school.
  2. Encourage Outdoor Activities: Take advantage of the nice weather by encouraging kids to play outdoors and explore. This could include: playing at the park, pool/Splash pad/sprinkler play, or riding bikes.
  3. Limit Screen Time: With more free time, kids may be tempted to spend excessive hours in front of screens; including televisions and electronic devices. It is important to set limits on screen time and encourage alternative activities like reading, arts and crafts, and/or playing board games.
  4. Involve Them in Household Chores: Use the extra time at home to teach kids responsibility by involving them in age-appropriate household chores. This not only helps lighten the load for parents, but also teaches valuable life skills.
  5. Plan Educational Activities: Keep kids engaged and learning over the summer by incorporating educational activities into their routine. This could include trips to the library, incorporating STEM activities, and/or taking trips to the Audubon Zoo.
  6. Encourage Creativity: Provide opportunities for kids to express themselves creatively through art, music, or writing. This can be a fun way for kids to explore their interests and develop new skills.
  7. Schedule Family Time: Make time for regular family activities and outings to strengthen bonds. Creating memories is important for maintaining connections and can be accomplished with simple activities such as having Game or Movie Night.
  8. Be Flexible: While it’s good to have a plan, be flexible and open to spontaneity. Summer is a time for relaxation and fun, so don’t be afraid to go with the flow and enjoy the moment.

Incorporating a Summer routine for kids will help  ensure a fun and fulfilling break for both you and your kids.
